2025 SSEA Conference Tri-Topic Network Preconference
Tri-Topic Workshop: Mental Health, Psychotherapy, and Prevention and Intervention – Case Illustrations and Common Themes

Objective
- To explore various perspectives of Mental Health, Psychotherapy, Prevention and intervention with emerging adults.
- Participants will engage with case examples, discuss practical strategies, and connect through interactive dialogue and small-group work to deepen insight.
- The session is designed to foster connection, shared learning, and collaboration among SSEA members around these key areas of focus.
Timeline
Case Studies, Current Issues, and Discussions
- The first part of the workshop will include three presentations of cases, illustrations, and concepts related to psychotherapy, mental health, and prevention and intervention.
- Each presentation will be paired with a discussant, followed by interactive Q&A sessions with the workshop participants.
Small Group Working Session and Report-Back
- Building on the workshop topics, case presentations, and participants’ experiences, groups will identify common themes and explore their relevance to intervention strategies, prevention techniques, and approaches to promoting mental health and well-being.
- Each group will receive guiding questions and contribute to a shared Padlet.
- Groups will report back in a brief plenary session.
Summary and Wrap-Up with Facilitators
- Key themes and challenges from the groups will be summarized, with takeaways for future application and collaboration.

Challenges for Emerging Adults Transitioning Out of Care: Views from Multiple Continents

This interactive pre-conference session will engage participants in a discussion of the challenges faced by young adults across the world who leave substitute care during the Emerging Adulthood years. The session will highlight learnings from a forthcoming book that compares policies, practices and research activity from 33 countries, “Leaving Care around the world: Policy, practice, research and youth participation.”

The Emerging Scholar Topic Network offers a valuable opportunity to engage with peers and experts in the field of emerging adulthood. This event is designed to help early-career researchers refine their work, gain constructive feedback, and connect with a supportive academic community.

Call for Submissions
We invite you to submit your work for the works-in-progress sessions. Presenters will have 10 minutes to share their research and receive feedback, with a focus on addressing questions that are most relevant to their current challenges. Open to scholars at any stage of their academic journey!
Examples of questions presenters might explore include:
•“What sampling strategies could I use to study X in a hard-to-reach emerging adult population?”
•“How can I connect these counterintuitive findings to existing literature on emerging adulthood?”
Submission Details
Submit a 300-word proposal including: Title; Introduction with research questions (if applicable); Methods and relevant results (if applicable); What you hope to gain from the session.
Evaluation Criteria
•Clarity of topic and methods
•Proposed benefits for the presenter
•Importance of the topic
