Enhancing Research in Emerging Adulthood: A New Guide For (Emerging) Scholars

Presenters:

  • Angela Sorgente, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan (Italy)
  • Shannon Claxton, Morningside University
  • Joseph R. Schwab, Bridgewater State University
  • Rimantas Vosylis, Mykolas Romeris University

Description: Angela, Shannon, Joe, and Rimantas will present their forthcoming edited book, Flourishing as a Scholar: Research Methods for the Study of Emerging Adulthood, to be published in early 2025 by Oxford University Press.

This book depicts procedures and techniques related to sampling, collecting, and analyzing data used in the study of emerging adulthood. In this webinar, the four editors will share the journey behind the book’s creation and detail how the initial vision transformed into a resource specifically designed to empower emerging scholars in the field of emerging adulthood. This webinar will introduce the structure of the book and expand upon its five sections, which guide readers through the research process.

The first section is titled “Before Beginning Your Research” and brings together chapters dealing with the decisions a researcher has to make before starting the actual research (e.g., Open Science Practices). The second section (“Participants”) helps to address one of the biggest challenges in emerging adulthood research: obtaining a high-quality sample. The third (“Measuring and collecting data”) presents how to collect both qualitative and quantitative data and how to assess their quality. The last two sections bring together chapters that present different techniques for analyzing quantitative (section four) and qualitative (section five) data.

The editors and this book aim to support (emerging) researchers in navigating the intricacies of studying emerging adults, enhancing their research quality, and contributing to the field’s continued growth. Don’t miss this opportunity to elevate your research skills!

A Cross-National Analysis of the Labor of Emerging Adults in a Time of Widening Economic Injustice

Presenters:

Valérie Cohen-Scali, Ph.D., Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris, France

Gabriela Aisenson, PhD., University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina

Donna Marie San Antonio, EdD., Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, USA

Join Dr. Valerie Cohen-Scali, Dr. Gabriela Aisenson, and Dr. San Antonio to learn about international research on emerging adults without a diploma in seven developed and developing countries. The presenters will examine the differences and similarities of these young people’s representations of work as a function of different contextual and work situations and discuss implications for practice with social and economic justice at the ethical core of what we do as mentors, teachers, and counselors going forward.
