Dear SSEA Community,

It is with deep disappointment that we announce that the SSEA Thematic Conference planned for Milan in May 2020 is cancelled due to concerns over the coronavirus. We wish to thank Margherita Lanz, Semira Tagliabue, and their team in Milan for all the efforts they made to arrange what promised to be a wonderful conference in a beautiful and exciting city. We want to wish them and their families good health, as they are in an area that is especially threatened. Unfortunately, the quick spread and serious health threat of the virus left us no choice but to cancel the meeting. It is too bad that so many people invested a great deal of time and energy into preparing their proposals for the conference only to see it cancelled. We encourage you all to submit those proposals next year for the biennial SSEA meeting in San Diego. Registrations already paid for the conference will be refunded by SSEA. For those of you who have made travel and lodging arrangements, we hope you will be able to cancel them. There is no doubt that money will be lost—including by us—but it is of course more important at this point that everyone's health be protected as much as possible. We regret that we will not be seeing our many SSEA friends in Milan as expected, but we look forward to seeing you again in San Diego.

Sincerely,

Larry Nelson, SSEA President
Abby Goldberg, SSEA President-Elect
Elizabeth Morgan, SSEA Past President
Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, SSEA Executive Director
